Friday Fun with Learning Part #5!

Happy Friday! The summer is positively flying by! But there’s still plenty of time to make it count for your child’s learning—and make it
fun! Below are this week’s recommendations for websites, apps, and tools to help you along. Don’t forget to give us your suggestions at
info@iLearnProject.com, in the comments sections, or on Facebook!

Just About Everything (Middle and High School)

TED, the non-profit “devoted to Ideas Worth Sharing” this year launched TED-Ed, an exciting education platform that pairs lessons by actual teachers with professional animation to create engaging videos. Students can browse videos thematically by clicking “Series” (“Inventions that Shape History,” “How Things Work,” “Questions No One (Yet) Knows the Answers To,” etc.) or by subject. Subjects include The Arts, Business & Economics, Design, Engineering, & Technology, Mathematics,  and more. Not only does TED-ED offer videos, accompanying lessons include multiple choice questions, “open answer questions,” and resources for further study—letting students test their knowledge and go deep. Plus, by creating an account, students can track their progress and watch their own learning accelerate. (TED-Ed is also a fantastic tool for teachers since every lesson can be customized with instructions, questions, resources, and a unique URL that allows the teacher to track student progress.)

Created by two students in 2007, CosmoLearning is a clearinghouse for educational resources. With content in 36 academic subjects aggregated from the some of the best educational institutions and resources available, you’re sure to find challenging and engaging content for your student—no matter what his or her interest!

Just About Everything (K-12)

neoK12 is an engaging website that offers educational videos, lessons, and games for K12 students—as well as teacher resources. This summer, check out some of their quizzes and games—all for free! Early learners will love their selection of movie-based games (Toy Story, Bee Movie, Kung Fu Panda, and more)—giving them entertainment and a chance to exercise their minds at the same time!

App

Math Maniac is a simple, fast-paced math facts app that will have you and your kids thinking on your toes! Creator Bjorn Voigt writes: “The goal of math maniac is simple: In 10 seconds, combine numbers to equal the number in the left bottom corner.” That’s all there is to it. Whether you’re standing in line or killing time on a rainy day, Math Maniac will liven things up and challenge your student’s mind to think fast and think facts. Multiple levels are available.
